A little this, a little that

The Fear of Suffering

“My heart is afraid it will have to suffer,” the boy told the alchemist one night as they looked up at the moonless sky.

“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity.”

“Every second of the search is an encounter with God,” the boy told his heart. “When I have been truly searching for my treasure, every day has been luminous, because I’ve known that every hour was part of the dream that I would find it. When I have been truly searching for my treasure, I’ve discovered  things along the way that I never would have seen had I not had the courage to try things that seemed impossible for a shepherd to achieve.”

      ~Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

Can’t Go Back

“I can’t go back to yesterday because I was a different person then.”

~ Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

Except Human Beings

“It seems that every life form on this planet strives toward its maximum potential… except human beings. A tree does not grow to half its potential size and then say, ‘I guess that will do.’ A tree will drive its roots as deep as possible. It will soak up as much nourishment as it can, stretch as high and wide as nature will allow, and then look down as if to remind us of how much each of us could become if we would only do all that we can.

“It may seem like you will never get anything accomplished, but sometimes going slow is the quickest way to get there.”   ~ Tom Dorrance

“If passion drives you, let reason hold the reins.”

           ~ Benjamin Franklin

At the Top

“There’s plenty of room at the top, it’s the bottom that’s full.”

         ~ Jim Rohn

Out of the Storm

“When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what the storm’s all about.”  ~ Haruki Murakami, author

Following Trails

“Just cuz you’re following a well marked trail doesn’t mean that whoever made it knew where they were goin’.”   ~ Texas Bix Bender

Oldie but Goodie

“The dictionary is the only place that success comes before work.

       -Vince Lombardi

“I am not as good as I ought to be. I am not as good as I want to be. I am not as good as I am going to be. But I am thankful that I am better than I used to be.”

           ~John Wooden
